My Hometown

Posted under Travel

I can say that I am so blessed with my own hometown. With its nature’s gifts my place is really a great wonder one has to be proud of. From my childhood to my age now, I can see ranges of mountain and horizons of bodies of water like rivers, lakes and even seas.
I live in a coastal area where people form the said place and form the neighboring towns and provinces also love to spend some precious moments along the beaches in my hometown. Going north will be the blue and calm South China Sea which will captivate the hearts of every viewer and with the surrounding of this, is the country’s pride – the Hundred Islands. This is the country’s first national park and it really composes of 123 islands, named and unnamed.
Foreign visitors can stay overnight on the islands where accommodations for overnight is available and even along the wharf where lots of hotels and inns are also widespread.

Tips for A Caravan Holiday

Posted under Travel

Leisure is oftentimes one of the most important things in life. If you’re planning to stay in a static caravan for your next holiday, you’ll need to make sure you’re prepared. Today’s caravans are luxurious, comfortable and warm, and caravan parks occupy some of the best coastal locations in the country. Plan ahead and you’ll enjoy a fabulous holiday.
Here are some things to bring. The first one is, few clothes for you to wear. Most caravan parks have an on-site laundry, so you don’t need to pack two outfits for each day – you can simply wash the clothes and use them again.
Another are the buckets and spades. If your caravan holiday is going to be near the beach, then be sure to take plenty of beach equipment with you. Good caravan parks are often right on the edge of the beach, which means you can take the kids down for an hour at the beginning or end of the day, or spend all day sunbathing.
Last one to consider is a good book. A lot of people say that their annual holiday is the time when they catch up on their reading, and the best thing about a good book or a stack of magazines is that you can read them at any time. If the weather’s sunny, take them down to the beach and relax on the sand, or sit outside your caravan so that the cold drinks are on tap.

Consider and Visit Austria

Posted under Travel

One of the very good countries in the world, when it comes to tourist spots is the Austria. Austria officially the Republic of Austria, is a landlocked country of roughly 8.3 million people in Central Europe. It borders both Germany and the Czech Republic to the north, Slovakia and Hungary to the east, Slovenia and Italy to the south, and Switzerland and Liechtenstein to the west.
In Austria, the euro was introduced as an accounting currency on 1 January 1999, and euro coins and banknotes entered circulation on 1 January 2002. As a preparation for this date, the minting of the new euro coins started as early as 1999, however all Austrian euro coins introduced in 2002 have this year on it; unlike other countries of the Eurozone where mint year is minted in the coin.
Visits to Austria mostly include trips to Vienna with its Cathedral, its “Heurigen” (wine pubs) and romantic Waltz music events. Worth a visit are Salzburg, birthplace of Mozart, Innsbruck, capital of Tyrol surrounded by the Alps, and the Danube valley with its vineyards, for example the Wachau or Dunkelsteinerwald, which are between Melk and Krems. In the western part of the country the province Vorarlberg reaches the Lake Constance, in the eastern part .
Of great touristic importance are the Austrian skiing, hiking and mountaineering resorts in the Alps as well as family-friendly recreation areas. The same applies to the numerous Austrian lakes.

The Alfajiri Villa Resort in Kenya

Posted under Travel

Africa is the perfect place for exotic sights, foods, culture but a perfect place where you can see one of a kind tourist places. The Alfajiri Villa in Kenya is one of the high-earning income boosters in the place.
Alfajiri is a very child friendly place, and children just love being spoilt. As you might imagine everything you could possibly want is included in the price, so whatever you want to do, be it swimming, snorkelling, golf, ngalawa sailing, and lots more.
The largest villa has its own pool, and the other two share an infinity pool, and we found the smaller two perfect as we were on our vacation with family friends, and had come from a superb, but tiring safari, so all we wanted was to relax, swim, drink, eat, catch up on lost sleep. The children loved the pool, and having never seen an infinity pool I couldn’t believe how the horizon, and the pool seemed to merge. In fact what with the clear blue skies, the small cliff could almost have been dangerous to the unwary!! What it did give us was added privacy, as no-one could see us, or even know we were there from the beautiful beach below.

Great Ideas for Honeymoon Getaways

Posted under Travel

For the newly wed couples, there are plenty of places in the whole wide world wher you can make the honeymoon great and very memorable. But there are only few things to remember. Two of these are the budget. The place must be affordable yet very romantic for the celebration.
The second one is the safety. The couple should see to it that the place should not only be affordable but also safe for them.
Honeymoon cruise is also advised. If exploring the seven seas is your dream, then, take yourself one step closer to fulfilling it by going on a honeymoon cruise. Not only you will get the chance to see several places (depending on the type of cruise you choose), you can see them without spending your energy traveling long hours. Your suite is also the one that will take you to different places. You and your couple can enjoy the night sky, sleep at any time of the night, spend the day embracing each other, and savoring the views presented by the cruise.
If you are contemplating of a weekend honeymoon, then you are also in a good track. If you want it short but lasting, you can also pack for the weekend at one of the places you and your partner love to go or would dream of going.

I would like to thank everyone that took part in the Fiber Arts Program at Adams Farm. Jenny Bakriges built a fabulous, unprecedented weekly fiber arts program that enhanced the lives of fiber enthusiast from all over the globe. I am proud to say that I was at the very first of the weekly programs, the July 5, 2003 Spinning Bee, and am sad to say that I was at the last program, the March 5, 2006 Knitting Circle with Jenna Konesko, where we watched an Elizabeth Zimmerman knitting video, enjoyed brownies, naturally sweetened muffins, the beautiful atmosphere, and each other. To all the people that were inspired by this program and especially our “regulars,” thank you, and know that your inspiration meant the world to us as well.

And on a cheerier note Llama Llama Duck

brighid’s dyers

Posted under Solar Dyeing Enthusiasts

Welcome to Brighid’s Dyers

Brighid’s Dyers are a group of solar dyeing enthusiasts that live primarily in the Northeast of the United States. Watch here for important solar dyeing information or let us know about a solar dyeing project you were involved in.

Hello Dyers and Dyer Wanna-Bees,

This message is going out to current “Brighid’s Dyers” and folks who may want to be part of future possibilities. Please forward to anyone (locally, nationally or internationally) who you may think would be interested in dyeing – natural or synthetic, especially with a particular emphasis on solar dyeing.

Thank you to everyone who attended the first, annual “Brighid’s Dyers”
potluck a few weeks back. It was held at my home in Whitingham, Vermont.
We had a great time chatting and discussing how we’d like to see Brighid’s Dyers go forward. It was inspiring and fun to see each other’s dye samples and wonderful, finished projects. Plus, the kitchen table was laden with an array of delicious food from all and for all to share. Thank you!!

Note that I wrote the pot-luck will be annual — but next year it will be held sometime closer to Halloween in October, given that that just happens to be my favorite holiday and we can use it as a “theme.” How about the option that if you come in costume, you’ll be eligible to enter a raffle for something that would be interesting to a dyer? Good? The pot-luck date will be well into autumn and we’ll have had a full summer of solar dyeing behind us and will be eager to share our triumphs and experimentations. As always, any and all thoughts on this are encouraged.

ESJ’s Note – Since Jenny will be instructing at SOAR – we are looking at the middle of November for the next meeting.
More to consider…would you like to partake and receive a quarterly, e-newsletter from Brighid’s Dyers? To do this, we would ask that two, different folks PER MONTH write up at least a paragraph, but more is very welcome, on anything to do with solar dyeing. This could be anything of a solar dyeing nature you’ve discovered that works well or doesn’t, your experiments, an interesting way you’ve “harnessed the sun,” a personal find regarding a dyeplant, dye or technique, an autobiographical account of how you got into dyeing or the fiberarts, etc. The dates for sending the e-newsletter would be at the beginning of the following months: January, April, July, and October. Please e-mail me of your interest to participate and write and which month you’d like to write for. Don’t be shy and please don’t delay in showing your intentions!! Don’t worry if you’ve never written anything like this before – we’ll take care of editing and getting it ready to go out to those interested. Note, however, this is down-and-dirty editing at best, and I’m known to mix up tenses and put too many or not enough commas in, so be kind!! I’d need the writing a week prior to the first day of those newsletter months. What month would YOU like to write for?

ESJ’s Note – This page on the website might replace the quarterly newsletter

Another thing discussed at the pot-luck was the possibility of having our own web-page(s.) One of the original members of “Brighid’s Dyers” has offered to help with this. It would be a wonderful way to showcase our samples/projects through photos. More to come on this….

“Brighid’s Dyers” currently does not have any membership fees and may never go that route, if we so choose. However, it would be wonderful if we could be part of a charity project. One thought is to raise enough $ to send a solar panel(s) or solar box(es) to third world countries for cooking needs or to begin a solar dye project in a school system. Your thoughts on this and how to go forward, should we want to realize it, would be appreciated.

That’s all for now, folks. Looking forward to hearing from you.

Cheers, Jenny Bakriges
